A lot of us focus on what we put in our bodies but what about on them? Did you know that your skin absorbs around 64% of what is put on it (think about it: there are many medications given to us that are ONLY to be administered topically). So with that in mind it’s highly important that we are concerned about what we are putting on our bodies.

Your next question might be, “well doesn’t the FDA regulate what ingredients are in our beauty products so I don’t have to worry about it?”. While that would be nice to believe unfortunately the beauty industry in the USA is highly under-regulated. The FDA doesn’t require safety testing of ingredients in personal care products and only bans 11 substances, while the EU bans over 1,300 ingredients. Some beauty product ingredients can also be impossible to understand unless you’re a chemist. The brands may hide not-so-good-for-you ingredients under synthetic “fragrances” since the FDA doesn’t require the listing of all ingredients in a fragrance or parfum.

Lastly you might be wondering, “is it that big of a deal if I use products with semi-harmful ingredients? People do it every day!” While it may seem innocent to grab unregulated products off the shelves for your self, the risks are HUGE. Some of the toxic chemicals you should avoid like parabens have been found in human breast cancer tissue, toxic chemicals have been known to disrupt hormones, and things like phthalates can have harmful effects on our reproductive systems (think infertility) and the list goes on.

WHERE TO START:

Choosing non-toxic products can be overwhelming, especially when you don’t know what you’re looking for. I highly suggest checking out the app “think dirty” – you can check out your current products to see what their safety score is or search for new products to use!

Hi!! I LOVE this list. Can you help me find an alternative for men’s shaving cream?! My husband is trying to swap our products and I can’t find any good alternatives!!

Too many don’t know that fast hair growth amino scalp therapy shampoos (obviously with no sulfates, no parabens or DEA) are a thing. We now may enjoy longer hair and have more possibilities. Undoubtedly worth reading.

When you’re talking about alopecia, damaged hair, preventing hair disorders, hair growth, hair and scalp health generally, similar principles come to mind.

For the most part, you have to steer clear of hair products and treatments that include chemicals such as parabens, DEA or sulfates.

What is good for your hair is healthy for your skin as well.

It goes without saying the content here hits the nail in the head for various reasons. It steers away from the usual mistakes and pitfalls most fall into- utilizing defective alternatives. Keep up the great content!
