Who knew a wedding could be so much work? I remember when Nathan and I picked our wedding date I thought 9 months was more than enough time to plan a wedding but oh man was it so much more difficult than I thought! I hope that this little look behind the scenes of how I planned our big day will help you guys move smoother and quicker through your own planning!
Wedding Theme:
Nathan’s style is more simplistic while mine is more bohemian so I wanted to find a way to mesh those two worlds together. I kept things simplistic colors like green, whites and grey/silver. I brought in some bohemian vibes with the macrame accents behind our sweetheart table and on our dessert table plus the proteas and wheat pampas in our flower arrangements brought a funky / earthy vibe.
Our wedding invites:
I created our wedding invites via minted.com – why minted? 2 bigs things:
1. if you input your guest list + their addresses through their website you can have free invite addressing printed on ALL of your envelopes (this saved me SO much time)
2. the guest list can be used on minted.com’s wedding website so the guests can RSVP right on your website – this is a great way to kill multiple birds with one stone.
Getting Ready:
I got a hotel room with all my bridesmaids the night before the wedding. The hotel gave us adjoining rooms and a late check out which worked perfect since we planned on doing all of our hair and makeup there since the venue didn’t have a good area for all of us ladies to get ready in. I bought everyone these cute pajama sets to get ready in from Le Rose. My bridesmaid Natalia did my makeup (she is based out of Seattle) and my bridesmaid Chantal (based in Nashville) did my hair along with half of the bridesmaids – my girl Leah (based in Nashville) busted out the rest of the bridal party’s hair – everyone had some sort of braid incorporated into their hairstyle to bring in the bohemian look.
Wedding Dress:
I got my wedding dress at a Berta trunk show in Washington DC at the cutest bridal shop Carine’s. – they were so sweet they even threw in my veil for free! I got all my alterations done in Nashville by the most wonderful seamstress Karen (who saved the day for me last minute) I would HIGHLY recommend her if you’re in the area – she also added clear straps for me so I could dance freely at the end of the night.
Bridesmaid Dresses:
I wanted each girl to have a different dress that fit their personality and body type so I decided to go with mismatched dresses in different shades of silver and grey. I got my dresses from Bloomingdales, Macy’s, and BHLDN.
Flowers:
My wedding venue was an “all inclusive venue” so I ordered my flowers, food, many decor elements, DJ, and bartenders through them. For my flowers I asked for something that involved a “protea” because I loved how they symbolize courage and new beginnings. I wanted only greens, grey and whites for the floral with some wheat pampas accents.
Ceremony:
We built this triangle arbor for our ceremony to add a bohemian feel. We had friends Fleurie and Jon the lead singer of Nightly sing all of our ceremony music live. We chose to write our own vows and I got our cute vow books on Etsy.
Table Arrangements:
For my table arrangements the lanterns came from my wedding venue, the table numbers were from Etsy, the candle votives were from Amazon, I upgraded the china (the grey plate, the marble salad plate and the smoke colored glasses) through Liberty Party Rentals. I put the grey runners on half of the tables to break up the dark wood farm tables – these were ordered through my venue.
Sweetheart Table:
I wanted something that set our table apart from the rest of the settings so I decided I wanted a large greenery garland wrapping the front of our table. I ordered the Macrame wall hanging from Etsy and I rented the chairs from a company in Nashville called Vintage Sparkle. The terrariums were from Target, the small glass votives were from Amazon and the lanterns were owned by my wedding venue.
Food:
For dinner we knew we wanted to do something that was near and dear to our hearts. Nathan and I both love breakfast so it only made sense to do breakfast for dinner (PLUS it’s more cost effective). We had scrambled eggs, hash browns, a pancake bar, sausage, bacon, and cereal. The whole menu was dairy free and the waffles were even gluten free! The juice dispensers, cereal glass containers, and the paper cups at the cereal station were from Amazon and dinner was provided via Flavor.
Appetizers:
We had a two passed appetizers durning cocktail hour; a pimento cheese biscuit, and a small chicken and waffle bite. To give our guests an extra taste of Nashville we also had taster cups from Jeni’s and for the dairy free / vegan folk we had some Koko’s Ice Cream cups.
Dessert Bar:
Since we did breakfast for dinner we knew we would need some breakfast pastries to go with the whole meal. We got donuts from Five Daughters, muffins from Vegan Vee and we got some special monogrammed vegan cookies from the Cookie Creative. My friend Chantal did the calligraphy signs, I got all the dessert stands from TJ Maxx, the Macrame banner is from Target, and some of the boys made the donut wall.
Wedding Cake:
I wanted my wedding cake to be simple with just a little flair so I asked for this green garland accent. I had the grooms cake made gluten and dairy free so I could enjoy some of it! The cakes were done by Jo’s Custom Cakes.
Signage:
For our welcome sign I found a large mirror at TJ Maxx that my bridesmaid Chantal used paint pens on for this polished look, I ordered my “time of events” and wooden “seating chart” signs from Etsy. (for privacy reasons I did not show a picture of our seating chart)
Cocktail Hour:
Outside of the appetizers and ice cream set up we had yard games for our guests, beer, wine and a “mocktail” bar with non-alcoholic beverages like virgin mojitos and fruit tea – my bar decor was complete with a neon sign I got off of Etsy that said “It was always you”.
The Grand Finale:
The night ended with lots of dancing, a bouquet toss, sparklers and fireworks (in memory of my father since he LOVED fireworks) – all and all it was a wonderful day! I hope you guys enjoyed this little look into our big day ๐
Behind the Scenes:
Our photographer was WONDERFUL – her name is Shannon Miller (she is based out of Florida) I would HIGHLY recommend her
Our videographers were also AMAZING over at Peerless Films – definitely worth every penny! Check out a snippet of our wedding video over on my YouTube Channel HERE

Love this wedding theme!
thank you!
Thank you for sharing! It looks like the perfect dayโค๏ธ I love that you were able to have almost everything available to you at the venue, that definitely makes the planning easier. Did you have a โday ofโ coordinator? Or did the venue set everything up?
I got mostly everything through my venue – I wanted a day of coordinator but my venue wouldn’t allow me – they said that it would just get in their way as planners (but honestly a lot of balls were dropped because of this day off and I would definitely get one if I could go back and do it all over again)
Hello! I know this was from a while ago but I would really love to know what the name of your wedding venue is?! It’s gorgeous. I assume it’s in Nashville but would love to know!
